Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor Member James V. Walker was killed in a traffic accident on April 9th, 2003, near Jackson, Mississippi. He was a reporter for the Jackson Clarion Ledger newspaper and was in-route to interview the parents of a young soldier killed in Iraq. James was 26.
James was the youth founder of the training organization which is now The NBO Scout Training Team. He was the original youth BAT "Basic Aid Training" Instructor and was instrumental in establishing The American Red Cross BAT program as a fun way for WEBELOS to earn the Readyman activity in the Sam Houston Area Council. Nearly 5,000 fourth and fifth grade boys and girls have attended youth-taught NBO Scout Training Classes and earned their BAT Patch since James founded the program.
